Jhagadia is GIDC’s large-plot estate in Bharuch district, covering about 1,700 hectares divided into only around 320 plots. That ratio is the whole character of the place: where Ankleshwar packs nearly 1,900 plots into a similar area, Jhagadia was laid out for big single installations rather than a dense bench of small units.
The tenants follow from that. Agrochemical technicals and their intermediates, specialty and performance chemicals, chlor-alkali and inorganics dominate, with large integrated sites and multinational neighbours in non-chemical manufacturing. For toll work this means dedicated or exclusive-use capacity is more findable here than a shared reactor for a small campaign.
The utilities are the best documented of any estate in the region. The industry association records a 77 million litre a day raw water treatment facility feeding the estate, piped natural gas to member industries, eleven kilovolt distribution from two substations, and more than 26 kilometres of four-lane road inside the estate. Effluent goes to a Narmada Clean Tech final treatment plant with around 90 million litres of guard pond storage, then into the shared pipeline to the sea at Kantiyajal.

- Is Jhagadia a critically polluted area?
- No. Jhagadia does not appear on the CPCB critically polluted area list and has no environmental pollution index action plan of its own. It was, however, covered by the 2007 moratorium imposed jointly on Ankleshwar, Panoli and Jhagadia because of the shared final effluent plant, and its discharge pipeline to the sea has been the subject of National Green Tribunal proceedings, so its regulatory exposure is real but different in kind.
