Toll manufacturing for specialty polymers and resins

For resin and polymer makers who need a polymerisation or a modification run in a reactor built for viscosity and heat.

Live listings

No verified unit lists Specialty polymers capacity yet. Listings appear here the day our desk approves them, and the guide below is how we qualify one when it does.

Post your requirement and our broker desk looks for the capacity by hand, or list your own unit if you run one.

Toll manufacturing for specialty polymers

Specialty polymers — alkyd and polyester resins, acrylic emulsions, polyols, polyamides, water-soluble polymers — are bought as toll manufacturing when a customer needs a grade made without investing in a polymerisation reactor and the heat-removal, vacuum and viscosity handling that come with it. The client typically supplies monomers or their specification and the recipe; the plant supplies the reactor, the control and the testing.

Polymerisation reactors differ from general-purpose vessels: high-torque agitators for viscous batches, heat-removal capacity for exothermic addition polymerisation, inert atmosphere and monomer storage, and often a column or thin-film unit to strip residual monomer. Molecular weight, viscosity and solids content are the release parameters, and the instruments to measure them have to be on site.

What to check before you send an enquiry

The questions our desk puts to a unit before it qualifies an enquiry for Specialty polymers. A listing answers most of them; the trial batch answers the rest.

  • Reactor suitability: agitator torque and design for your final viscosity, heat-removal capacity for the exotherm, and inert-gas provision.
  • Monomer handling and storage — inhibitors, temperature control, and the hazard-class licences that apply.
  • Release testing on site: viscosity, solids, acid value, molecular weight or particle size for emulsions, against your specification.
  • Residual monomer and VOC control: stripping capability and the plant’s emissions consent.
  • Storage and packing for viscous or temperature-sensitive product, including heated or nitrogen-blanketed tanks where needed.

Where the capacity is

Resin and polymer capacity sits in Dahej and Nandesari near petrochemical feedstock, in Ankleshwar’s multi-purpose plants, and in Ambernath and Tarapur for the Mumbai coatings market.
