What crystallisation on job work involves
Crystallisation is the purification step for most solid chemicals, and it is bought as toll manufacturing when the client needs a controlled cooling profile, a seeding protocol or an anti-solvent addition their own vessel cannot deliver reproducibly. The step sets purity, crystal size and, for pharmaceutical material, the polymorph, so it is usually contracted together with the filtration and drying that follow it.
The equipment is a jacketed, agitated vessel with a programmable cooling ramp and enough chilled capacity to hold it, sometimes with an anti-solvent dosing system and in-line temperature or turbidity measurement. Agitator design matters — too much shear breaks crystals, too little leaves them fine — and the difference shows up as filtration time and dryer performance downstream.
